A trip to an electronics store in Moorabbin today to improve the playing capabilities of a new blu ray player, led to a curiosity fuelled expedition of the surrounding locality. First, Sandringham for a cappuccino and then a walk to Red Bluff, in rainy, cold conditions. En route, a necessary walk through a watery estuary meant my shoes and socks got wet, but it was worth it. The high eroded cliffs of Red Bluff were raw and imposing, and the weather helped to emphasise its wild spirit.  

Back home, two rounds of hot chocolate were most welcome.

Warm midday winter sun was most welcome following a freezing -1C this morning.  The light too pretty not to capture through my lens.

Date and Walnut Loaf

The Receipt

35-40 dates, chopped

2  1/2 cups vegan milk

2 cups whole-wheat/combination flour

1 avocado, mashed

1 small banana, mashed

1-2 tablespoons of oil (if desired)

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

3 tablespoons/small handful chopped walnuts

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon cloves 

Preheat oven 170C.

Heat the milk until hot and add the dates. Cover and lit sit while preparing the cake.

Toast the walnuts.

Mix dry ingredients and wet separately, before combining. Grease a loaf tin and fill with the batter. Top with extra walnuts. 

Bake for one hour.
