pictures from home

rearranging the shelves in my grandfathers handmade cabinet in an endeavor to highlight our collection of books illustrated by ardizzone.
meanwhile, the pristine white flowers of the mock orange tap against the window in the breeze....

' Le jardin '
this afternoon.

comfrey, parsley, silverbeet and radish going to seed,
sage flowering,
broadbeans climbing,
strawberries ready to eat,
artichokes -  not long to flower,
ladybirds, crane flies, bees, swallow tail and cabbage butterflies
mingling amongst the sweet scented herbs of thyme, mint and  lemon balm.
and cheetah lazing under the lemon tree.
everyone's  enjoying 'le jardin'.

savon au printemps

On  a spring day, if not a  moody spring day,  camille and I made soap.
A batch of unscented castille like soap for the laundry, and a charcoal and shea butter soap scented with anise, for bathing.

Making dandelion coffee. I still prefer it to store bought as the flavour seems to be better.
Added to a saucepan of hot rice milk, a pinch of cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and cloves, makes a delicious and comforting chai latte. Served with good company - of course.

14 October 2018

a somewhat windy day...

and the weather is warming up.
time to pull out the quilts and start washing.
they smell so fresh and feel lovely and soft after a line dry in the breeze.
thankful for the lovely sunny days of late.
