 Rainy last day of Winter.

15 August 2023

The day started at -0.1C,

which is somewhat reassuring, although it maybe a false sense of reassurance.
Not looking forward to summer.
This winter has been warmer than average and I've missed those cold days of yore.

Enter the laundry.
A small space compared to our last laundry at City Road. Thus, improvisation was called for, and this is where the peg rail has been invaluable. Previously, laundry baskets that took up valuable floor space are now hung, as are all the tools required in our daily cleaning duties. The ample storage cupboards that we no longer have, are replaced with a shelf that we added to the top of peg rail which also serves as an artistic way to display eye catching package design. The Lifebuoy Soap carton I recreated from a 1940s version.

Bags are also useful for storing odds and ends in an attractive way.

The faithful old denim apron, must be 10 years or so, since I first made this.
Will be patched as necessary.

Le Chalet de Chat Toilette designed specifically for the needs
of the discreet cat and the hygiene conscious cat slave, errr, I mean, owner.

And look at this! The mist has cleared to reveal a fine sunny day. Must go out and enjoy it.

In between cultural studies, took a moment to bake some Pumpkin and Thyme Scones. Both ingredients of which came from the garden. Satisfying and wholesome morning fare.

A day in the life of two privileged felines.

This afternoon, and all are aslumber. Kaatje sleeps on top of Camilles wardrobe on a suitcase, and Nook Nook stays warm and toasty in his little outside house.

2 August 2023

A brilliant sunny August day. Should be studying but might leave that for the afternoon.  Started off,  with plant based french toast with mashed banana and blueberries. Then it was the usual washing on the line while keeping an eye on Kaatje all the while. Garden not looking too bad despite the wet muddy conditions. The soil is poor and will take a while to improve. In the mean time, the layers of mulch in the form of weeds, kitchen scraps, leaf matter, old potting mix etc. will continue to be piled up on the beds until the soil reaches a rich stage of rich nutrient value and friability.

Kaatje goes exploring.....

Not today, but a few weeks ago. Lemon Cake baking. From the vegan baking tome, Beating Eggs and Butter.

 Italian Apple Cake
Subbed the sugar for agave nectar and halved the oil content. Still utterly delish.
